The Memorial Sports Medicine Institute
Athletes and others who participate in physical activity are more than just bones and muscles.  The physicians at the Memorial Sports Medicine Institute are dedicated to delivering a comprehensive approach to sports medicine for the injured and healthy athlete.  Specializing in sports medicine, the physicians at the Institute are primary care doctors from Memorial Hospital of South Bend.  Working closely with physical therapists, athletic trainers, exercise physiologists, primary care physicians, orthopaedic surgeons, nutritionists, and sports psychologists, the Memorial Sports Medicine Institute physicians strive to help athletes of all ages and abilities to achieve their peak performance.

Dr. Lavallee earned his bachelor's and graduate degrees in medicine from Pennsylvania State University in Hershey, PA. After his residency at Family Practice Residency in York, PA., Dr. Lavallee completed a Fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at Crozer-Keystone Health System in Springfield, PA. A member of numerous professional societies, including the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, and a fellow in the American College of Sports Medicine, he has his subspecialty certificate in sports medicine. He has authored numerous publications in sports medicine, and is currently an editor of the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine and on the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine Board of Directors. He is certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Dr. Lavallee enjoys Jeeps, weight lifting, and spending time with his wife and two sons.

Dr. McAward received his bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame and his medical degree from the University of Ireland, Cork. He completed his residency in family medicine at the Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program and his fellowship in sports medicine with the South Bend Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship. Dr. McAward has served as assistant team physician for Notre Dame and Indiana University South Bend, as well as for national and international weight lifting championships. He is a member of many professional organizations, including the American College of Sports Medicine, American Medical Society of Sports Medicine and the American Academy of Family Practice. Dr. McAward enjoys traveling and is actively involved in a variety of sports, from football and golf to cycling and volleyball.
